Friday Foto

Every camping trip involves walks on the beach at night, accompanied by crab catching and then the infamous crab race. The race lasts about 15 seconds.

  1. Heh, I've never been to a crab race. Of any kind. I have gone lobster fishing though, which was fun...

    Cool pic!

  5. Crabs are like, really cute, but kinda scary. I remember going crabbing (for much bigger guys) in Galveston with my cousin and uncle when I was about 10, and a crab clamped my cousin's thumb! Can we say childhood trauma? :P

  6. Crab Race = walk on the beach with flashlights and a gaggle of kids.

Catch crabs and put them in bucket.

Draw a big cirlce in the sand around bucket, about five feet out. Have everyone stand around teh circle.

Lucky kid gets to dump the bucket of crabs.

Crabs run around and many run over of bare feet of observers.

    Everyone gets a thrill.

I have never seen a crab in person but our last trip to the ocean we got to know the jelly fish very well. They were everywhere.

  10. Camping near the ocean...night walks on the beach...can I just say that I am green with envy. It was snowing here last night but stopped, same thing this morning...it has stopped but more to come later. Even though it hasn't amounted to anything yet, I am still jealous. Maybe I need to convince my husband that we should move out of Minnesota? LOL

  11. Tricia - that's pretty funny.
Smiles - my mom is from Minnesota. Duluth. I only went there once before my grandaparents retired and moved to Cali.

  13. They are so tiny! When I was young, I would spend hours down at the shore catching crabs.

Just wanted to wish you Happy Birthday! A day early I know but I most likely wont get a chance tomorrow.

  15. My 6-year-old's favorite activity at his grandparent's beach house.

Amazing the happiness and memories one chicken leg, some string and a crab net can produce.

    FUN!!
