The World We Each Create

The Spin Cycle this week is “motto.” As in what mottos do you live by?

I have an eclectic mix of mottos this morning that I will throw out there like several splashes of paint upon the canvas. If you find any of them at odds with each other, well then. You have a glimpse of what it is like for me on a daily basis.

We learn more from our mistakes and failures than we do from our successes. The growth we experience as we work through our trials takes us to a better, more aware state.

If we deny we made a mistake, or try to blame others for them, we are bound to find ourselves in situations over and over again until we work through whatever it is we are meant to work through.

Laugh and and see the humor in things as much as possible.

Be mindful. Although we do learn through our mistakes, some missteps are life altering.

Be generous.

Love before all else.

I leave you with a quote from Martha Graham.

We hold the power to create whatever we desire. Our ability to manifest the changes we desire depends on the depth and passion of our beliefs and on the focus of our attention.

With this understanding, we, as individuals and as society, can design a whole new future for ourselves. Our challenge is to break free of society’s world view, to truly empower our imaginations to create brand new realities. It brings a whole new meaning to ‘vision.’

What do you passionately desire for your own life? For the planet?

The gesture is the thing truly expressive of the individual – as we think so will we act.

From more motto spinning, head on over to Sprite’s Keeper.

  4. Love before all else is my personal fave too. :-)
Those are some great mottos and while they may get in the way of each other once in a while, they're still great to live by.
    Great Spin, Pseudo. You're linked!

  5. "Laugh and and see the humor in things as much as possible."

I just don't think we, as humans, live this one enough - I think it's the key to longevity. Excellent motto.

For me, The Golden Rule pretty much covers it all.

  9. If you can stay calm whilst all around you is chaos then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

  10. 2 mottos:

do what you've always done and you will get what you've always gotten and that isn't always a good thing.

do unto others as you would want them to do to you. (or something like that, I am terrible with sayings)

  11. That is so true. Everyone does mess up every now and then. Who cares right. Thanks for the kind words the other day...

I say you only live once. So have fun.

  13. My motto is the same as Hortons:
    "I meant what I said, and I said what I meant. . . an elephant's faithful 100 percent!"

  20. All of those are fabulous. I'm especially drawn to Graham's.

I personally have one that I carry around in my head, spoken as far as I know, by Diane Sawyer, and it goes, "There's no substitute for paying attention." Cuz there isn't.

  24. These are wonderful! Some are similar to ones I already live by...especially the one about laughter and finding humor as much as possible. I will have to print these off to add to my collection.

Some that come to my mind off the top of my head...."What goes around, comes around." "Always choose to love, one more time." "Attitude is everything." Last but not least my favorite or I should say most thought or said motto as of late, "Just breathe."

Great post as always. Love and hugs, Lori

  31. Sometimes it's hard to put love before all else.

And sometimes it's hard to live Graham's saying, also.

But I love them both. As I said in my post, things to keep in your pocket and bring out when you need to be reminded!

    Great post.

  32. I love this one:

I think some people forget that too often... :)

  33. That's a lot of mottos. I'll have to think about this one to see what mine are:

"When there's a piano to move, don't pick up the bench." comes to mind.

  34. I really like your title- The world we each create.

Because truly our world is as a good as we make it- and while we may not all be rich fiscally, we can all find everyday blessings/positives to enjoy to enrich our lives!

    Great Spin!

  36. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." It seems to encompass just about everything. Oh, and maybe add, laugh about it together, just to get the necessary humor in.
