I netflixed the movie The Savages last weekend. Two adult siblings caring for their father during his last months. A father who had been abusive and not very caring himself.
It made me think of this huge baby boomer generation and what it might be like another 10 and 20 years from now. Hopefully the economy won’t go belly up. BTW. For a great blog on the economic bailout, see Shauuna. She has links to articles AND to a website that gives you direct access to emailing your White House people’s what you think of it.
The movie also made me think of our dog grandpa. I write so much about Border Collie, even posting pictures, that it makes it look terribly neglectful of Old Man. He’s 16 and we adopted him as a three year old when Son was 3 and Daughter was 6. As a young dog he’d be out in the service alley with 10-15 kids. They’d try and tie him to their wagon trains to be their “horse,” but he’d none of it. He’d jump into one of the wagons and let the kids pull him all over the neighborhood. He used to go to the beach and spend the day trying to catch sandcrabs or swimming in the ocean. At his last check up the vet says he’s nearly blind and mostly deaf. He has arthritis in his hips. Before we got the puppy, Old Man used to act like he couldn’t walk past our yard. However, BC has given the Old Man a new lease on life and he now looks forward to a walk around the block twice a day.
I give you Old Man. Isn’t he regal?

Aww!
Smart dog, haha, getting the kids to pull him when they were originally trying to do the opposite. Sometimes I wonder what Riley's tricking me into doing too...
Old Man is a border collie mix from the humane society. He's way smart and has the puppy totally submissive to him.
He is regal...there is nothing that can teach us more than an old dog...they just know everything...
ps..i love that you used a lyric from that song...haven't heard it in years and now it's going to be going thru my head all day...definitely going to have to download it from itunes tonite when i get home...
and why are the word verifications so hard today??!!...i actually had to correct the one i did for Only a Movie...jeez...:)
I thought the same thing about the word verifications this morning. Thought I needed new glasses.
And yes, Old Man teaches a lot about aging gracefully. Sleep a lot, take stairs slowly, keep the younguns in line, and thoroughly enjoy the treats when they come your way.
oh..thank god..i thought it was just my eyesight going too...had to get my nose 'this close' to the screen...'wtf is that, is that 2rr's or an m or what?!'...;)
old man's lessons...worthy of a sticky post...
He seems like a very sweet dog. :-)
Love it. He looks like a great dog! I met Neil Young once. It was pretty funny. :)
Thanks Movie and Kathy. He is sweet. Kathy - you met Neil Young? I'm jealous. How was that?
Oh he's a cutie. I am a total softy with dogs. I would hug him a ton if I could only reach him!
What a sweet pup, he looks very distinguished with his salt & pepper grays. So glad he's getting a second wind with the Border Collie.
Yes - he can handle the gray well. It matches his socks.
the sweetest elderly statesman of them all.
