The Many Faces of October Intercession

Friday 10/3
Stayed at work until 5 grading story quilts. Went to friend/colleague’s house with other colleagues to drink margaritas and commiserate how exhausted we all felt.

Saturday 10/5
There were a lot of hours spent with dogs. Walking dogs. Bathing dogs. Obedience class for BC (Border collie). Pretending I didn’t notice every time when he got bored and would roll on his back and do the wiggle scratch dance. It doesn’t help when others keep telling him he’s cute.

Sunday 10/5
I’m not sure I did anything. At least to completion. There was a lot of half done housework. Oh yeah, some dog walking.

Monday 10/6
Went in to work and graded two more classes of story quilts. Came home and read exhaustively on the internets. Did a half ass job on some more household chores. More dog walking.

Tuesday 10/7
Tried to do some work. I now have some half done lessons for next week. More dog walking.

Wednesday 10/8
Husband was off and we had a date day; we went to the North Shore with BC. Husband suggested we leave the cooler and beach bag locked in the car so we could take a walk first. Walked with husband and BC for four miles through soft sand. It was a beautiful day and there were points when I even thought about coming home and writing something, maybe even a poem, to catch the amazing beauty. But my legs feel like overcooked spaghetti. So my brain is claiming exhaustion based on how my legs feel.

More reading on the internets. This article was the best. Warning! It's politics. But it's extremely well written and from The New Yorker.

I have four days left and one of my goals is to have ONE day where I am in my PJ’s until at least noon. Maybe longer.

I HOPE you get your PJ day! You are so lucky to be in Hawaii! Have I told you I am so jealous!

excellent break stuff...but i'd go for the full day of pj's...just because...

isn't it hard to not laugh when the dergs doing silly things in school...even if i'm laughing at someone else's dog, mine think it it's a cue to abandon whatever they're supposed to be doing and laugh along with me...we can be quite hopeless sometimes...

PJ's it is. Thank-you Mcewens and Thistle.

Yes, the dergs are fun and funny. This class is so serious compared to puppy class. Mine just wants to herd them all.

I agree with Thistle - spend one whole day in PJs! I try to do that every once in a while on a weekend and it's heavenly.

Sounds like a great break. margaritas, romantic beach walks. Ahh, the good life! Enjoy the rest of your time off.

Thanks Liz and SMB. Gotta love some time off - even to squander.

Ooo, you're the second person I "know" who linked to that New Yorker article. It was too long and dense to hold my attention completely, but I did read the last paragraph. Marvelous.

Yes! Spend a day in pjs, walk the dog, read books, and eat ice cream out of the tub all in pjs.

Since you asked...my girls are their baby personalities, just a little more refined. Number one is still easy going; number two stopped having tantrums (thank god) and she still smiles all day. She can be counted on for wildly unusual observations. Number three is quiet, but I wouldn't want to cross her in a dark alley.
What about your two? Especially since they have had a little more time to let those personalities cook?

As much as I would love to live in Hawaii, the thought of walking 4 miles through soft sand made me wince!

Ahhh....it's still worth it!

Mama Dawg - you nailed it. Beautiful - but OMG what a work out. Husband is in better shape than me and had to stop every 15 minutes so I could dip in the ocean.

Just b- My daughter was a horrible baby. Premature. Collicky. the crying thing from 10 at night to 3 in the morning. Now she is even tempered and a great young 19 year old. Son - a great baby. 20 minute delivery. Happy easy going. Changed dramatically by 15 months old and has been tenacious and impulsive ever since. Now he's an adventrue sport enthusiast. Who knows what the next ten years will bring?

Kristan...? You are too too modest miss carnegie university early grad.

Robin, 24, and shaunna - I paid for the north shore day by spending most of today in my classroo grading. Looks like Sat is PJ's day!

Pseudo - you are working too much during your break!! PJ days are a must. I am a huge fan of PJ days and sometimes I declare PJ afternoons (especially if it is rainy), when I change into PJs as soon as I get home from school.
