seallll!!! oh my gosh! mom did i tell you last week i went to diamond head and there was a seal chilling out on the beach? it was awesome. i forgot to tell you earlier.
I'm no biologist, but I do believe it is a Hawaiian monk seal. When they beach themselves like that they totally knock out and sleep for hours. Usually the north shore lifeguards will come along and put orange cones and, no shit, construction yellow tape around them, but this was early, about 7 am, that I was walking on the beach.
oh thank god..i was really afraid there for a minute...but is that a zoom shot or did you actually get that close!!?....can just see you tip toeing up LOL...
and anonymous...has she discovered a new way to break news to you that might not be easy to break in person...Brilliant! LOL
I learn so much here. I can't believe they just beach themselves and then sleep. Too funny. And a little scary bc I really thought....uh... Thanks for sharing these great photos.
Yes, I thought it was a log, then when I realized it was a seal I started shooting pictures. That last shot I was pretty close, but then zoomed in some too.

Glad that he was just sleeping! Lucky you with those walks on the beach to see things like this. Green with envy.
I thought he's dead and good thing he's not.

didn't you think it was a log until you got right up to it? (wish i was there.)

What amazing pictures! How fabulous to live in a place where you might just happen across that!
Whew...glad he was sleeping.
That is one huge seal. Wow. Impressive. And I'm so relieved. I would have burst into tears if you'd told me he was dead. Whew.
