Alicia's Market in Kalihi

I have not had time for any exotic travels around the island of late. Between Son's graduation next week and my closing out the school year, it's been too crazy for much leisure time.

However, today I had to run an errand in town on the way home and decided to stop at our favorite Mom and Pop store for some poke and roast duck for dinner.

I was a good little ol' blogger today and had my camera in my purse so I was able to take you all along with me.

Alicia's is located in Kalihi. Not exactly a tourist area or a place you would roll by on a visit, but it is right on one's way from the airport to Waikiki. Just off Nimitz highway, it is located at 267 Mokauea Street. It's the real deal.

Smoked fish

Roasted meats...

Poke selection galore

And.............we're home. I should have wiped the plate and made a nicer presentation. Oops. I'm hungry.

Starting from 12:00 position we have roasted duck, miso tako poke (tako is squid), smoked tako poke, wasabi masago ahi poke, and onion shoyu poke.

I will own up totally that I have been on the fly of late. While searching for definitions of "poke" and "tako" for you, I found this great blog. A better post on Alicia's perhaps than this one, but what the hell. You're my blog buds so this one is from a friend.

And hey, click on the sunset in the side bar for a treat of a traveling post. That place is now on my list...

I love this place. Yum. It strangely reminds me of places back in Texas. Well, except for the ...poke.

Does look tasty... gotta ask hubs if he ate that stuff when he lived there...

From what I've heard, too much smoked fish isn't good for you. Still, I could happily live off the stuff.

I. WANT. THAT. DINNER.

*sobs*

I bet somewhere in that market is someone who will get you a marriage license - we got ours in a very similar little market on Kauai.

Figures the day I have a TTT post, Mr. Linky is acting up: http://www.jbsitedesigns.com/?p=7948

Congrats to your son on graduation!

And mmm, Alicia's market looks delish. Too bad I just finished breakfast and lunch is still three (loooong) hours away. :\

Shh, don't tell me what's on the plate. Just pass me the chopsticks and watch me smile.

Egads, is the boy graduating? Why do I sense elation in that statement? :-)

I'm hungry, and I don't even know half of the food on that plate. Do tell us more.

Oh yeah, we would definitely like this place. I think the little bit of juice on the plate shows off the food better and looks more real!!

Congrats on the grad. And that plate? Yeah, I'd have to pass. The old tummer is on the fritz and that looks just a tad too adventurous right now. I'm staying away from anything called "poke" for a while.

The market sounds wonderful, though!

Congrats and good luck on your son's graduation. God, you deserve it!! And I know this time of year is insane for teachers, even w/o a graduate, so hang in there, summer's almost here!!

I feel blessed that my little town has a meat market, but nothing like this. What a wonderful place and true travel treat--don't let the end of the school year get you too down, summer's coming. Congratulations to your son. And I want some roasted duck!

Sorry that my post is a day late...

We should be painstaking and discriminating in all the advice we give. We should be especially painstaking in giving guidance that we would not about of following ourselves. Most of all, we ought to avoid giving counsel which we don't follow when it damages those who woo assume us at our word.
