Women Stuff Randomness

I'm late to the party... but my time zone is working for me.
* * *
My students created “media literacy collages” as a part of a media literacy unit I taught. The collage was to represent their use of and influence by different forms of media. They were also supposed to differentiate what they considered positive from negative uses. Like…

Facebook is positive because I use it to socialize when I’m stuck at home… negative because sometimes I spend so much time on it I never do my homework.

So the kids are presenting their collages to the class. One female student, while presenting her collage, pointed out an airbrushed, better than real life hot chick.

I put this model on my poster because she is sexy. This influences me to be sexy.

She did not say if this was positive or negative in her POV. While I sat there waiting – hoping – she would go there and discuss this further, she moved on to another picture.

This is a picture of a bible. It represents the Christian channel. It influences me to be a Jesus Girl.

My friend Movie sent me a link to The Women’s Colony when I wrote about my Dream Life. Go check out The Women’s Colony. If you don’t come back I would not blame you. But try and come back.

October is breast cancer awareness month. I have been cancer free for three years and seven months. Click on the pink ribbon in the side bar. Every click helps.

I haven’t written anything in a long time about being a cancer survivor. I should. It is October. But lately I am more focused on being a survivor of raising a teenager… Except that the court is still out on that one. As in whether or not I will survive.

Go visit Vodka Mom and her cause. She is awesome. Her cause is awesome. Her contest is awesome. Go on now.

Congratulations of being a survivor!!! I would love to read a post on how cancer changed your life. Do you still live life with a new edge? How often are you reminded of it? Do you cry anymore remembering the events that unfolded from it?

Life does go on. You just get sucked into other concerns and worries. I hope your son is feeling better. I will continue to think about him in my prayers.

Yay on three years and seven months.

You WILL survive the teen years, I'm sure of it. Hope things are improving. Your family is in my thoughts.

At least your students keep you laughing. Ha. What exactly is a Jesus girl and wouldn't sexy-ness contradict that image?

I have to admit, I haven't been clicking daily, but I'll do my best to remember to click every time I come.

The women's colony looks fabulous, and funny! :D

Sexy Jesus Girl, got it.

And hey, like Gloria Gaynor says, you will survive. Hang in there.

I've been thinking about you a lot lately - perhaps because it is October. Or perhaps because we are both parents of teens. Or perhaps because I'm missing Hawaii lately. Sigh!

You will survive. Period. And if you're not taking the time to say your thanks for the fact that you've survived breast cancer, well, then I'm here to do it for you. Because I am thankful for it!

If you had say... a SIL who found a lump and then ignored it for months until it was the size of a golf ball and then had it removed and then went through the SAME thing again a couple years later only this time she had to get a mascetomy because she had left it so long would it be ok to smack her upside the head? I mean, if you had a SIL who did something like that.

Three years and seven months! You go, girl! I haven't clicked for a while, but I will now...and thanks for the reminder of the Women's Colony--it is a great site.

Maybe the student thought it was a given - that sexy equals positive!

I was going to say something snarky about sexy jesus girl, but it's probably best to leave it alone.

You will survive this teenaged stuff. Oh yes you will.

Three years and seven months is so incredibly cool.

Got my little pink ribbon pin yesterday to support the ta-tas!

We've been all pink at work all month, as we have a coworker who just finished her treatment and has come back to work.

We talk about her boobies all the time. She had reconstruction and is getting an angel tattoo instead of a nipple. Can't wait to see it. Oh yes, she'll let me see.

Congrats on three years and seven months! I can only imagine what you've been through, but after reading your posts for several months now, it's obvious you have what it takes to survive anything, including teenagers.

Thanks for sending us to the Women's Colony!

Congrats on 3 years and 7 months. I clicked the pink ribbon.

I'm too scared to click the women's colony link, so I didn't. Bad memories of the time I accidentally walked into the women's locker room at the gym....

Sexy Jesus Girl...wait, you're not allowed to mention Jesus in a public school, are you?

3 cheers for 3 years!
I am so happy for you.
Here's my example:
Blogging is good for me since it takes the place of therapy and helps me connect with others that I normally would not be able to. It's bad for me since it tends to take up time and make freak out when I fall behind in posting/reading/commenting.

You've survived cancer and you'll survive this too. It's what you DO.
That must have freaked you out a little when that girl made that presentation in your class?
And I love The Women's Colony, BTW!

Is it even possible to be a sexy Jesus girl?

Good luck surviving teenager-hood!

Debbie said...

Yes, that student cracked me up! Thanks for sharing.

How did she get from skinny anorexic model to Jesus girl?!?!

Jan said...

My mother once said, many years ago, that she knew my sister Whacky But Loveable would survive adolescence, but she wasn't sure she would.

She did. You will too.

I see many other comments on "sexy Jesus Girl". Could be a blog title or a band name. I often wonder how the world would be different if Jesus had changed the water into beer instead.

Midlife Roadtripper said...

You almost didn't get me back from the Women's Colony. What fun that is!

Amy said...

I am so you are cancer free. That is amazing.

Mike said...

You will survive the teenage thing also! My Mother did! :)

I would also like to hear your story sometime, when you are ready to tell it.

Beth said...

Your students made me laugh. Sexy Jesus Girl must be a study in contradictions.

Hoping my favorite survivor's day is great!

P.S. You'll survive the teenager. I promise you will.

Seems our views of beauty are off the scale...when children start thinking that the cartoons look better than they do, it's time to do something about it...
Had my mammogram...thanks to Kat (Just a Beachkat, she can be found in my sidebar) who is also a survivor, as you are. Strong women are to be admired. So, I admire you!
