Friday Foto: Remembering "The Book Lady"

Asa Yamashita

If you live in Hawaii, this article has avenues of giving to honor her life and her memory.

If you don’t live in Hawaii, but are moved by her story, you can honor her memory by reading to a child or donating a book to a school or library.

As her brother-in-law is quoted in the news article from her eulogy,
He asked the mourners to honor Asa's memory and "pick up a book and read. ... Read to learn something, read to enjoy. ... Just maybe you're reading for a better world."

For more Friday Fotos, head on over to Candid Carrie's.

How terribly tragic! What an amazing teacher she must have been to make Shakespeare come alive!

Hopefully her daughters and husband will have comfort by all those that loved her for the many hard months ahead

What a terrible thing to happen. I'm trying to figure why the guy would only get charged with 2nd degree murder. The comments by kids at school are wonderful. I wish her family the best.

A good life cut too short. It's really sad to know and more so that with her passion in reading, she influences others. May she rest in peace and may the culprit/s be served justice soonest.
