Introducing Travel Tip Thursdays

You don’t have to travel to feel like you are on vacation.

Sometimes travel is a mindset. I mentioned at the beginning of the summer that I could not get off the rock this break. I longed to. ROAD TRIP has been a siren song serenading me 24/7.

Since I could not travel, I have made it a goal to take a “staycation” day at least once a week.

Whenever I host a vacationing family member or friend in my home, I noticed we take advantage of the perks of living in Hawaii much more so than I do myself on a regular basis.

However, when I do live outside the four walls of my home and the comfort of the normal routine, it always ends up being the kind of day that will stick in my memory and not get swallowed up by the amorphous blob of normal.

Those days are also excellent blog fodder. With that in mind, I am introducing Travel Tip Thursdays.

Isn’t the badge cuter than all hell and back? A friend made it for me. Ah, that I should have skills like this.

Every Thursday will feature something about living life like a person on vacation. For now, from me, that means featuring the best days of life on Oahu and occasionally the outer islands.
Hopefully, these posts will offer ideas not only for those who are planning a visit here, but also plant the seeds of ideas for similar activities wherever one may live. Or just make someone feel like they came here for a few minutes through their computer.

I invite anyone inclined to do so, to join in the virtual travel fun. Between now and next Thursday, I will figure out how to put up Mr. Linky. On Thursday, if you post a Travel Tips post, grab the Thursday Travel Tips badge’s code in the sidebar, put the badge in your post, come back here and add your name to Mr. Linky. And let the virtual travel extravaganza begin.

May it inspire our weekends.

Ideas for posts…

What you do close to home to feel like you are on vacation? Like this post of Jan’s where she takes us to Ohio’s Amish area. Or Movie’s trip to the mountains only a few hours from her home. If you live someplace exotic to the rest of us, like Braja in India, or Michel in Sudan, just about any post could become a Travel Tip post.

Actual travel too! Smart Mouth Broad’s biker trip stories (look in her sidebar – amazing photos accompany a narrative that makes you feel like you are on the back of the Harley with her) or Mama Dawg’s day by day virtual tour of Disneyworld.

Anything and everything that makes us feel like we were there.

Hope to see you next Thursday!

I could use travel tips for Hawaii. It is way up their on my list of places to visit.

My Aunt on Hilton Head never goes to the beach unless she has company!!!

Michel's not exotic, she's just addicted to fiction. That so-called life in Sudan? It's all a story---she's living at 3233 West 75th in the Upper West Side.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I dunno what I'll post next week - maybe talk about going to Cleveland? - but the week after, I'll write about our weekend trip to the cabins in Hocking Hills State park.

I'm soooo looking forward to this.

ooo, great idea.

I'll have to think of something good that doesn't involve a lot of driving...

And if you write about your own, can you give us a clue what beach you were on in your 'Unawareness' post? I'd like to spend a few hours being 'unaware' myself...

:-)

We love to take day trips. When we do I'd be happy to post on Thursdays about it. Great idea in this less than stellar economy.

Braja is right. My whole blog is an elaborate scheme. I imported dirt piles to put on the roof tops and adopted some stray dogs from a random third world country for photo ops.

It was a LOT of work, but it was totally worth it.

PS that was Braja's address. She just googles india for her info. She doesn't even LIKE cows. I saw her one day wearing a leather suit.

rotflmfao...tooo funny a leather suit for Braja...bawhahahah you going to get smoted Michel!

Did you have a better day and find something laugh about today? I hope so. HUGS

I knew something was up with Michel's stories. Oh well, Braja's actually a 50 year old bail bondsman from Missoula.

What a wonderful idea! I'm looking forward to reading future posts. Not sure I will be able to participate, only because I feel like I'm buried with a full-time job right now, but we'll see. Never say never! :)

Since I've only been living on our 26 acre homestead for a year, I guess my staycation is right here! ;)

Very cool idea, Psuedo! I realized we were missing opportunities to staycation too. A visiting friend asked while we walked on the beach, "So, how many timesa month do you come here?" A month? More like a year? That's when I started doing my weekly (doesn't always happen) beach walks. It reminds me that I live in Florida.

Staycations are big in Arizona right now. We don't have any tourists so the locals are trying to support the local business owners. I would really like to do this. It would be fun. I'll see if I can pull something together by Thursday.

I can't seem to get your button to work on my homepage.

Oh, you are so right. I have a swimming pool in the garden that is hardly ever used. I can see the sea from my front door and never go. the sun shines daily and it would be most people's dream. I am surrounded by loveliness but rarely appreciate it unless people are visiting. I will make more of an effort. Promise. Really promise. I WILLLLL!!!

Dreamgirl said...

I would think every day living on Hawaii would feel like vacation *dreaming*

When I'm working hard (high school teacher too) and the sun is shining I will bring the kids and hubby to a beautiful small lake just minutes from our house. We'll bring hot dogs, swimwear, blankets and lots of goodies and just spend the long evening having fun together. Feels pretty great!

Just stopping by from SITS to wish you a wonderful Sunday and a sunny week!

Take care!

Greetings from a Norwegian in Spain (on vacation now for 3 weeks - 4 more to go! The joy of being a teacher....)

I love this idea and hate that my reader didn't update your post until tonight.
Very good idea and I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the attractions in your own backyard!

I go to Farmers' Markets and buy flowers and other odds and ends. It makes me feel like I'm on vacation... I guess because I'm spoiling myself and bringing some sunshine into my home. :)

I guess you could consider my current situation a staycation since I'm holed up in the bedroom away from my family....
