Summer Ends and School Begins...in Fucking July in Hawaii

New feature in the sidebar....click on the sunset...you won't be sorry. A blogpost that will make you laugh, or cry, or maybe just take your breath away. Will be updated regularly.

Also...join us this Thursday for virtual traveling. Or check out last week's debut of Travel Tip Thursday.

and now for our regular feature...

I’m fortunate. I love my job. Once I get to work I enjoy what I do and the time flies. It’s just that I like staying home more. I’ve been working since I was sixteen and the only break I took was the year after our daughter was born. (If you call taking care of a baby a year off, which is a pretty loose translation).

For many years I worked a job and half; for some of those job and a half years I was also taking graduate classes. I know. Call the whambulance cause I’m being a whiner.

I guess you could say I’m a little burnt out.

Or not.

It’s just that I loved this summer so much and it feels like I’ve only started on a routine that I want to stick with. I really don’t know what I’m going to take out when I put regular working hours back in.

I’m going to let the Beatles finish up my thoughts on this…

The transition into fall is bittersweet, isn't it? Especially when the transition takes place in JULY! Yikes!

Within a week or two, it'll all be routine again.

But, we'll miss your summer schedule, that's for sure!

It always sucks when you have to get back into a routine after having a period of relative freedom from the daily grind! Once you get rolling, everything is fine, it is just hard in the beginning!

I liked the summer routine, too. Once the kiddos are there, I'm all good. Well, until some of the parents start yacking again.

I feel your pain.

I worked year round (taught summer program) for the first 8 years of my teaching life. I remember.

I am sad that your summer is over, but you have a nice long break in October, right?

xxoo

Not ever having fully enjoyed a job I think you're very fortunate!

My name is Eileen. And I am a workaholic too!!! LOL

Before kids, I worked my full time day job teaching high school and taught at a college two nights a week. Then, the other two nights - I got my graduate degree. Just nuts and fun!!

When my boys are both driving in 4 years, I plan to go back to teaching night classes to pay for their college. Teaching at our local colleges pays between $40 and $50 an hour!!!

I do not want them to start their lives with a mountain of college debt. I plan to make sure that they both have at least a little bit of debt to pay back. No way could they find a job outta high school for $50 an hour to pay for college.

Oh.... and I am sorry that your back to work :-( Very sorry.

Can you hold your classes outside? Make up your own curriculum?

I worked from 16 on too, then the juggling of kidlets while working piecemeal at lots of part time jobs. Teaching special ed with my 3 teens' activities going full tilt was trying. Then the depressing realization that summer (all of about 9weeks here now) was over. I feel for ya.

Since my parents owned their own business for most of my childhood, I've been working since I was 11.

Yes - eleven.

I worked for my mother for many years, where I worked 12+ hours a day, six days a week.

Then I went to work in Corporate America, where the term "rat race" takes on a whole new meaning.

I've put in 80+ hours a week for the last 6 years, when Beloved bought this business.

Burn out? I understand completely. All I want to do is retire. PLEASE LET ME RETIRE. I want to cook, take care of the house, learn to be a kickass photographer and blog all day.

You did say we could join you in the whine, right? I'll bring the cheese...

Wow! That was a short break! Do you get time off in winter too?

Aw, sorry it's back to the grind already...

(Btw, the way, the wedding video is cute. As I commented at Shauna's site, I've seen link after link to this video, but not until you 2 endorsed it did I give in. :P)

I hear you. We just get settled into one routine and start to enjoy it, and then have to pop back into the old one.
You're not whining; sounds like you've worked your butt off for years. It's okay to want to do some things for yourself, or even just slow down a little.
And July is NO time to start school, anywhere!

That was fast... school in July? Wow. I would like to skip August and go right into Sept... I've had enough summer thankyouverymuch.

This is one of the things I love about blogging. Validation and comraderie ; -)

I have the same vision for myself as Jan - just add into that working on the book.

We have a pretty non existent summer... I think this year we had about 2 weeks of summer weather... kids get about 8 weeks off...

Water temp at the beach? TOO COLD for me... I am guessing 16-19 c...

Yeah, after vacations it's hard to wake up early in the morning and go back to work. I still have a few weeks left before I go back. I'm trying to enjoy every minute of it. It seems like you really enjoyed your vacations. =)

I don't blame you! I'd want a longer break too.

Let's go to the beach. :)

So, do you have any time to take off yet? We could take a walk to the beach or go to that Botanical Garden spot you posted about.

I love the Beatles and I love the summer...wish it never would end! Starting back in July? Wow, what a trip! I do have something, though, that might perk you up a bit. BTW, SITS sent me over...and I'm having a giveaway where EVERYBODY wins, so please come on by!

well that sucks. I'd like to submit a rejection letter to the school board that tells them that summer is NOT over, and you'll be back in September.

that really stinks..I am sorry..summers are getting shorter and shorter!

Gah! My post today was supposed to include a comment about your Travel Tip Thursday but I forgot. Just like I forgot my camera in my van and couldn't take pictures for Thursday.

Sigh.

Back to job hunting. This fall will definitely suck.

Oh now that really stinks. Just no need for it! let all the students and the teachers relax!!!!

I'm so sorry you are heading back already. Hope you did have a recharge time and did find some new habits you can fit in permanently Sucks. July and school - just ain't right.

Casey said...

Sorry you have to go back so soon, Pseudo. I'm like you... this is the first time since I was fifteen that I've ever been off for an extended period of time and it took some getting used to. Here's hoping that you settle back in with ease.

welcome back to the rodent wheel.

egad, 40 years later and the beatles can still sum it all up in a song. and in a music video... bmtv = before mtv (or oh so that's how the pitch went for mtv.)

Seriously? You have to go back already? I'm bumming with you!

The absolute worst part about vacation is that you eventually have to return to work. Hate it.

I know what you mean. Transition is a tough time.

When I was on STD recovering from surgery and Blue Eyes was home taking care of me...I totally loved it. Loved every single day with him. Hated the pain, of course...but spending every day with Blue Eyes, made me long for retirement when we could do that every day. Of course, we have many more adventures to look forward to before that day arrives, but at least I know I'll enjoy it when it does!

Always an end to it, isn't there Pseudo....

Wow already??? That's so not fair. And I love that whambulance phrase... cracks me up every time I hear it.

Generally I have so much to do on my job I work at least a few hours every weekend. One nice thing about my recent surgery was two full weeks of enforced downtime. It was actually quite refreshing.

Good luck to you and I totally understand your angst. :)

those are my sentiments too. I do really love my job, although some years are harder than other, but I do wish for a sugardaddy to come and take me away, and allow me to have summer vacation forever. =)
